A night after erasing a 5-0 deficit to force a Game 7, the Angels quickly overcome an early run by San Francisco. After Reggie Sanders' Sac Fly gives the Giants the 1st run in the 2nd, Benjie Molina answers for the Angels with a 2-out run-scoring double in the bottom of the inning.

The Angels then strike against Hernandez in the 3rd as David Eckstein leads off with a single and is followed by another single by Darin Erstad before Hernandez plunks Tim Salmon to load the bases, Garret Anderson clears them with a double before Hernandez can record an out in the inning.

Staked to a 4-1 lead, John Lackey carries the ball through 5 innings before turning it over to Brendan Donnally for 2 innings and then Francisco Rodriguez for 1 more before Troy Percival closes it out in the 9th despite putting a pair of runners on.
