Game Notes

Yankees add another chapter to the Red Sox' curse with a 6-5 come-from-behind win in 11 innings.

Leading 5-2, 5 outs from the World Series, Boston lets the lead slip away in a 3-run 8th inning. Then Bret Boone leads off the bottom of the 11th with a HR off Tim Wakefield on the 1st pitch to win it. Mariano Rivera pitches 3 scoreless innings to win it.

Boston had led after a 3-run 2nd inning. Pedro Martinez cruised through much of the game, while the Red Sox hit Roger Clemens early. David Ortiz's solo HR off David Wells in the top of the 8th appeared to provide the needed cushion.

New York gets to Martinez in the 8th after Derek Jeter doubles with 1 out and then scores on Bernie Williams' single. Hideki Matsui follows with a ground-rule double and Williams and Matsui score to tie it on Jorge Posada's double.
