Florida recovers from a 4-run 1st inning by Chicago to take the lead, only to let a pair of 2-run leads slip away, the final time when Sammy Sosa hammers a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings. However, Mike Lowell leads off the 11th with a pinch-hit HR.

The anticipated pitching duel between Carlos Zambrano and Josh Beckett never materializes as both succumb to big innings early. Ivan Rodriguez drives in 5 runs for the Marlins, including a 3-run HR that sparks Florida's comeback in the 3rd.
