Game Notes

Marlins stop Yankees' rally this time to hold on for a 6-4 win.

A night after a 9th inning meltdown forced Florida to work extra to win, Ugueth Urbina retires Hideki Matsui as the tying run. New York had cut a 5-run lead down to 2 runs in the 9th.

It was the Yankees' start that made a difference allowing the Marlins to take a 3-2 series lead. After New York scored 1 run in the 1st and David Wells pitches a perfect bottom of the inning, back spasms send Wells out. Florida then jumps on his replacement Jose Contreras for 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd.

After a pair of 2-out walks, Alex Gonzalez's ground rule double scores the tying run, and Brad Penny singles home 2 runs. Penny then does the job on the mound, scattering 8 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings.
