Andy Pettitte, Yankees close out the Angels 5-2.

New York clinches its 40th AL pennant behind a strong effort by Pettitte, who goes 6 1/3 innings allowing 7 hits, including an RBI single by Bobby Abreu in the 3rd. However, Joe Saunders is unable to hold the early lead, allowing a 2-run single to Johnny Damon, followed by a bases-loaded walk of Alex Rodriguez in the 4th.

The Angels draw within 3-2 in the 8th, but New York answers with a pair of runs on sacrifices in the bottom of the inning, and Mariano Rivera takes care of the 9th to seal the win.
