New York finds just enough offense against Pedro Martinez, and plenty of pitching from A.J. Burnett and Mariano Rivera to quiet Philadelphia. Burnett goes 7 innings, allowing four hits and just a single run in the 2nd while striking out 9. Rivera pitches 2 shutout innings of relief to close out the win.

Martinez matches Burnett through 5, allowing just a solo HR to Mark Teixeira in the 4th. But Hideki Matsui follows suit with a solo shot in the 6th, and Jorge Posada singles home an insurance run in the 7th.
