Game Notes

Phillies capitalize on Reds' meltdown for a 7-4 win.

Cincinnati jumps out to a 4-0 lead and appears headed towards evening the series. But then the Reds turn into a comedy of errors and mistakes. Cincinnati hits 3 Philadelphia batters and commits 4 errors.

The Phillies' rally starts when back-to-back errors with 2 outs in the 5th results in a pair of runs on Chase Utley's 2-run single. Arthur Rhodes and Logan Ondrusek each hit batters in the 6th, setting up a run on Shane Victorino's bases-loaded walk with 2 outs.

Then the dam breaks in the 7th after another HBP starts the inning, Philadelphia takes the lead when rightfielder Jay Bruce misplays a simple fly ball, and then Brandon Phillips botches the relay allowing 2 runs to score. The Phillies tack on an extra run before the inning ends, and then add another in the 8th.
