Carpenter goes 8 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 6 to help St. Louis pull within 1/2 game of NL Central-leading Cincinnati. The Cardinals open a quick 2-0 lead on Los Angeles, plating a pair of runs in the 1st inning on ground ball fielder's choices.

After an Andre Eithier HR for the Dodgers in the 4th, St. Louis scores the more convention way with an RBI-single by Aaron Miles and run-scoring double by Felipe Lopez for a 4-1 lead in the 4th. Rookie Allen Craig adds a 5th inning Sac Fly for his 2nd RBI of the night, and 1st 2 of his MLB career.
