Cincinnati builds an early 4-0 lead and rides a strong performance by Edinson Volquez to the victory, coupled with a St. Louis loss to reduce the Reds' Magic Number to 4. Volquez goes 8 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 6.

Jim Edmonds homers in the 2nd and Chris Heisey follows with an RBI single. Edmonds is injured on the RBI, but his replacement Miguel Cairo steps in with 2 hits and 1 RBI.
