Minnesota gets a 1st inning Grand Slam, opens a 7-0 lead then turns back Kansas City's rallies to pull within 1 game of Detroit in the AL Central race. The Twins score 5 runs in the 1st, 2 more in the 2nd and 3 more in the 4th to break the game open early.

Rookie Jeff Manship starts and gets his 1st MLB win, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned. However, the Royals do not go quietly and close to within 10-7 in the 8th. But Joe Nathan shuts down the rally.
