Texas bunches runs together to piece together the Rangers' 7th straight win, reducing their Magic Number in the AL West to 8. The Rangers answer a 2-0 start by Detroit with a solo HR by Vlad Guerrero in the 2nd, followed by a tying run that scores on a throwing error. A throwing error by Armando Galarraga allows Texas to score the go-ahead run in a 2-run 3rd.

Texas extends the lead with a Sac Fly and a 3-run HR by David Murphy in the 4th. A 2-run blast by Nelson Cruz in the 7th rebuilds the Rangers' lead after Detroit closes to within 9-7.
