Minnesota strikes for 5 runs in the 1st, with Cleveland starter Mitch Talbot leaving with shoulder soreness after just 3 batters and allowing a walk, a single and Joe Mauer's RBI single. Justin Masterson replaces Talbot but is unable to stop the 1st inning outburst.

The Twins tack on additional runs off a ground out, Sac Fly and a wild pitch. Danny Valencia's RBI single completes the scoring binge. Kevin Slowey makes the lead stand up, scattering 6 hits and 2 unearned runs over 5 innings before turning it over to the bullpen for 4 scoreless innings.
