Game Notes

Late heroics lift the Blue Jays again, for 3-2 win over the Braves.

Toronto wins it on its final time up for the 2nd straight game. This time Candy Maldonado delivers a bases-loaded single over a draw-in outfield to drive home Roberto Alomar in the bottom of the 9th, victimizing Jeff Reardon for the 2nd straight game.

Steve Avery had cruised after a solo HR to Joe Carter in the 4th and took a 2-1 lead to the bottom of the 8th before Kelly Gruber leads off with a homer to left. The start of the 9th doomed Avery when he yielded a single to Alomar to start the rally.

Juan Guzman matches Avery for most of the game, scattering 8 hits over 8 innings, falling victim to an unearned run due to an error by Gruber in the top of the 8th that gave Atlanta a 2-1 lead. Duane Ward claimed his 2nd straight win by pitching a scoreless 9th.
