Game Notes
Lonnie Smith, Braves slam the Blue Jays 7-2.
Atlanta stays alive and sends the series South again in large part thanks to Lonnie Smith's Grand Slam. Smith's slam, the 16th in World Series history, breaks open a tight game in the 5th.
Toronto matched single runs by the Braves in the early innings. However, Atlanta breaks out against Jack Morris with 2 out in the 5th. Otis Nixon singles, steals second and scores the tie-breaking run on Deion Sanders' single. Terry Pendleton follows with a ground-rule double and David Justice is walked intentionally to load the bases. Smith then takes a Morris pitch into the rightfield seats for the Slam.
John Smoltz weathers 6 solid innings, before departing in the 7th after allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. Mike Stanton closes with 3 innings of 1-hit ball.
