Sterling Hitchcock, Padres finish off the Braves 5-0.

Hitchcock combines with San Diego's bullpen to knockout Atlanta after the Braves had won 2 straight after falling into a 3-0 hole. Hitchcock earned MVP honors with his 2nd win in the series, holding Atlanta to 2 hits in 5 innings before 4 relievers combine on 4 innings of hitless relief to close out the game.

Tom Glavine had kept the Padres scoreless for 5 innings but the wheels fall off in the top of the 6th. After retiring Tony Gwynn to start the inning, Glavine gives up a pair of singles and Greg Vaughn scores on Jim Leyritz's groundout. Wally Joyner follows with an RBI single before Glavine loads the bases allowing another single and a walk.

The big blow comes when Hitchcock hits a soft liner to left that Tony Bautista misplays into an error scoring 2 runs. Quilvio Veras follows with an RBI single to give San Diego a 5-run inning and comfortable lead against Atlanta's quiet bats.
