Game Notes

Yankees take a contentious 6-5 win over the Mets.

The game starts with Roger Clemens showing his ass in the 1st inning, and ends with Mariano Rivera putting a halt to a furious Mets' rally. Clemens pitches a stellar 8 innings, but they are easily overlooked after Clemens picks up a shattered bat and hurls it in the direction of his nemesis Mike Piazza.

Owing to his lack of conscience, Clemens is unfazed by the incident, and goes on to dominate the Mets, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 9. Meanwhile, Mike Hampton struggles from the start, giving up 2 runs in the 1st and a solo HR to Scott Brosius in the 2nd.

However, the Yankees must overcome a 9th inning rally, as Piazza crushes a 2-run HR off Jeff Nelson and then Jay Payton adds a 3-run HR off Rivera, before Rivera strikes out Kurt Abbott for the final out.
