After wasting multiple opportunities, the Mets come through in the 8th when Benny Agbayani follows Todd Zeile's 1-out single with a double to the gap scoring Zeile for the go-ahead run. Joe McEwing pinch runs for Agbayani and scores on Bubba Trammell's Sac Fly. Zeile earlier drives in the tying run.

The Mets had a chance to break the game open in the 6th, but 2 doubles, 2 walks only result in 1 run that ties the game as Orlando Hernandez pitches into and out of trouble. Rick Reed had given the Mets 6 strong innings, but departs trailing 2-1.
