With the wind blowing in, Chicago is able to win with solid pitching and timely hits. Al Nipper goes 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 run before departing with tightness in his elbow before the 7th.

Charlie Puleo nearly matches Nipper, but Rafael Palmeiro delivers for the Cubs. Palmeiro goes 3-of-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs. He leads off the 2nd with a double and scores the 1st run on Dave Martinez's single and then breaks a 1-1 tie in the 7th, following his 2nd double, scoring on Damon Berryhill's single.
