Down to its last strike, Chicago forces the game to extra inning when Darrin Jackson singles home Lloyd McClendon. The Cubs win it on Andre Dawson's 2-out single off Mark Eichhorn, scoring Shawon Dunstan in the 10th.

Dawson had given Chicago a 1-0 lead with an RBI single off Marty Clary in the 4th. Steve Wilson makes the lead hold up until Atlanta breaks through with 2 runs in the 7th.
