Down 3-1, Houston scores once and has a runner on 3rd with 1 out before Rod Beck strikes out Tony Eusebio and pinch-hitter Dave Clark is ruled out after going out of the base line to avoid a tag by Beck following a soft tapper down the first base line.

Mark Clark and Shane Reynolds lock up in a 1-1 pitchers' duel before the Cubs break through against Jay Powell in the top of the 8th. Sammy Sosa and Mark Grace each deliver 1-out singles before Gary Gaetti drives a 2-out double into the gap for 2 RBI.
