Chicago strikes for 3 in the 1st against Jerry Reuss as they Cubs avoid a 3-game sweep by Cincinnati. Brian Dayett delivers a 2-out, 2-run single and then scores on Chico Walker's single.
Jamie Moyer turns in a solid effort on short rest, keeping Cincinnati scoreless through 5 innings before walking Eric Davis and Dave Parker to start the inning. Davis would later score when Ryne Sandberg was slow to turn a potential double play that would have ended the inning.
The Cubs get 4 innings of stellar relief, highlighted by Frank DiPino's strikeout of Parker with 2 on and 2 out in the 7th.
