Atlanta starts its season, collecting its World Championship rings and then home runs. The Braves club San Francisco pitchers for 5 homers, while giving up a pair.

Ryan Klesko's 2-run HR off Mark Leiter highlights a 3-run 1st inning. Jeff Blauser's solo HR in the 3rd pads the lead before the Giants cut the lead in half. However, Fred McGriff adds a 2-run HR in the 5th for a 6-2 lead. Mark Lemke and Jerome Walton add solo HRs.

Greg Maddux starts but fails to show his 1995 form, allowing 9 hits and 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings.
