Early power and pitching prevail for Milwaukee. Paul Wagner scatters 5 hits and 1 run over 5 2/3 innings and then is backed up by 3 1/3 inning of 2-hit relief to stop San Francisco.

Wagner gets all the support he would need as Jeff Cirillo follows a lead off single with a 2-run HR off Orel Hershiser before Hershiser can even record an out. Cirillo would later reach on an error by Bill Mueller in the 5th, and move to 3rd on a throwing error by Jeff Kent, before scoring on a single by John Jaha.
