Pittsburgh awakens in the 9th after Denny Neagle and 3 Atlanta relievers handcuff them for 1 run over 8 innings. However, against closer Mark Wohlers the Pirates strike. After a single and 2 walks load the bases, pinch-hitter Turner Ward jumps on Wohlers' 1st pitch for a single back through the box to score 2. Later, Al Martin adds 2-run single.

Esteban Loaiza scatters 8 hits and 2 runs over 6 2/3 innings before Ricardo Rincon and Clint Sodowsky keep the Braves' offense stalled.
