Jeff Kent's Grand Slam off Scott Winchester in the 4th breaks the game open and allows San Francisco to roll on to a rout behind Mark Gardner. Gardner scatters 5 hits and 2 runs over 8 innings.

Meanwhile, the Giants strike early against Cincinnati. Kent connects for a 2-run HR off Winchester in the bottom of the 1st and adds a Sac Fly in the 3rd. San Francisco strikes for 8 runs in the 4th with Charlie Hayes providing a 2-run HR and Daryl Hamilton adds an RBI single before Kent's Slam. Hayes bats a second time in the inning and delivers an RBI single.
