Pittsburgh blanks Baltimore to force a Game 7, staving off elimination for the 2nd straight contest. John Candelaria goes 6 innings, scattering 6 hits before turning it over to Kent Tekulve for the final 3 innings.

Jim Palmer pitches around trouble until the 7th when the Pirates break through with the help of some leaky defense. Omar Moreno singles with 1 out and Tim Foli follows with a tough shot up the middle that Kiko Garcia is unable to handle smoothly, failing to get on the play. Dave Parker's single scores Moreno and sets up Foli to score on a Sac Fly by Willie Stargell.

The Pirates tack on 2 more runs in the 8th when a poor throw by Benny Ayala makes it no contest for Ed Ott to score on a Sac Fly and Moreno singles home Phil Garner.
