Game Notes

Royals complete their comeback to finish the Blue Jays 6-2.

Kansas City earns its 2nd AL pennant by taking the final 3 games of the series after trailing 3-1. The Royals need no comebacks in Game 7, getting to Dave Stieb early while Bret Saberhagen and Charlie Liebrandt shut down Toronto.

Jim Sundberg singles home Pat Sheridan in the 2nd and then Sheridan tags Stieb with a 2-out solo HR in the 4th for a 2-0 lead. Saberhagen blanks the Blue Jays through 4 innings, but departs after taking a comebacker off his pitching hand. Liebrandt enters and allows a 2-out RBI double to Willie Upshaw in the 5th.

However, Kansas City pulls away in the 6th when the Royals load the bases with a walk, HBP and another walk. Sundberg then triples off the top rail of the rightfield fence. Sundberg scores on Frank White's single for a 6-1 lead.

Liebrandt keeps Toronto scoreless until the 9th.
