Game Notes

Cardinals bounce back with a 4-2 win over the Dodgers.

St. Louis gets its 1st win of the series despite wasted chances to break the game open. Los Angeles starter Bob Welch struggles from the start, but the Cardinals get minimal return from their chances.

St. Louis gets a pair of runs in the 1st on a single and 4 walks and one costly throwing error by Welch, whose wild throw on a pick off attempt of Vince Coleman at 2nd base goes into centerfield allowing Coleman to score. The Cardinals get 2 more in the 2nd, but the damage is muted when Willie McGee is picked off ahead of a HR by Tommy Herr.

The Cardinals leave 11 runners on base, going 1-of-11 with runners in scoring position. Danny Cox weathers a rocky 1st to get the win with 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 5 walks and 2 runs.
