Cardinals stun the Royals in the 9th for a 4-2 win.

St. Louis erupts for 4 in the 9th to claim a 2-0 series lead after Charlie Leibrandt handcuffs the Cardinals on just 2 hits through the 1st 8 innings. Manager Dick Howser sticks with Liebrandt in the 9th and it backfires. Willie McGee leads off with a double before Leibrandt retires the next 2 batters. After Jack Clark singles home McGee, Liebrandt is 1 strike away from the win before Tito Landrum doubles.

Following an intentional walk to load the bases, Terry Pendleton delivers a bases-clearing double down the left field line.

Kansas City had taken a 2-0 lead in the 4th when Willie Wilson leads off the inning with a single and George Brett and Frank White follow with back-to-back doubles off Danny Cox.
