A blown call by Don Denkinger opens the door for Kansas City's 9th inning rally. Trailing 1-0, Jorge Orta is ruled safe on a bang-bang play at 1st base to start the rally. Steve Balboni singles, and following a bunt and an intentional walk to load the bases Dane Iorg laces a single to right scoring Onix Concepcion and Jim Sundberg to win it.

St. Louis had scratched out a 1-0 lead when Charlie Leibrandt's luck breaks down in the 8th when Brian Harper delivers a RBI pinch hit single. Leibrandt had been perfect through 5 innings, while hooking up in a pitcher's duel with Danny Cox.
