Twins overpower the Tigers 9-5 to take the AL Pennant.

Minnesota continues to confound the experts, battering Detroit's 'unbeatable' Doyle Alexander, posting a 4-run spot on him in the 2nd inning, before continuing to take on runs each time the Tigers threaten to rally. Tom Brunansky doubles home 2 runs in the 2nd, then adds a solo HR in the 9th after Detroit draws within 6-4.

Bert Blyleven goes 6 strong innings, with the exception of a 3-run 4th that gives the Tigers hope. Leading 4-3, Minnesota pads the lead with a Sac Fly and a groundout and error in the 7th and 8th, respectively. Detroit draws within 6-4, but Brunansky's HR off Mike Henneman sparks a 3-run 9th to put the game away.
