Game Notes

Twins pound the Cardinals 10-1.

After St. Louis scratches out an early run, Minnesota erupts in the bottom of the 4th with a 7-run inning. Gary Gaetti, Don Baylor and Tom Brunansky all single to load the bases against Joe Magrane before Kent Hrbek singles home the 1st 2 runs. Magrane follows up by walking Steve Lombardozzi to reload the bases with no outs.

Bob Forsch relieves Magrane, but is unable to stop the momentum, allowing an RBI single to Tim Laudner. Dan Gladden then breaks it open with a Grand Slam, the 1st Series Slam since 1970. Lombardozzi tags Forsch for a 2-run HR in the 5th for a 9-1 lead.

Frank Viola cruises with the comfortable lead, going 8 innings, allowing 5 hits, no walks and 1 run, while striking out 5.
