Game Notes

Cardinals breathe life with a 3-1 win over the Twins.

Down 2-0 in the Series, and 1-0 in a pitchers' duel between John Tudor and Les Straker, St. Louis backs into a big inning and stops Minnesota's streak. Tony Pena is unable to execute a bunt to move over Jose Oquendo in the 7th, and ends up singling to give the Cardinals a pair of base runners against Juan Berenguer. Vince Coleman then delivers a go-ahead double and scores on Ozzie Smith's single.

Pitching had ruled until the big inning, as Tudor goes 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 7. Straker, the weak link of Minnesota's rotation, proves to be an asset going 6 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 runs before giving way to Berenguer to start the 7th.
