Game Notes

Blue Jays prevail over the Phillies in a 15-14 slugfest.

Records fall as Toronto rallies to take a 3-1 series lead. A 6-run 8th inning is the difference in the longest and highest scoring game in World Series history. The 4 hour, 14 minute marathon features 32 hits as it obliterates the previous scoring record of 22 combined runs.

Philadelphia leads 14-9 when things get 'wild'. After Larry Anderson retires the first batter in the top of the 8th, Anderson gives up a single and a walk ahead of a run-scoring double by Paul Molitor. Enter Mitch Williams and the meltdown has flare. Williams promptly allows a run-scoring single to Tony Fernandez and a walk. After a strikeout for the 2nd out, Rickey Henderson singles 2 runs in to cut the margin to 14-13. Devon White follows with a 2-run triple and the collapse is complete.

Offense dominates throughout as the Blue Jays score 3 runs in the 1st, and Philadelphia answers with 4 in the bottom of the 1st. Starters Todd Stottlemyre and Tommy Greene are gone before bottom of the 3rd.

White has a single, double, triple and 4 RBI and Fernandez has 3 singles and 5 RBI. Milt Thompson has a single, double, triple and 5 RBI for the Phillies while Lenny Dykstra has a double, 2 HRs, and 4 RBI.
