Game Notes

Joe Carter, Blue Jays claim the World Championship with a wild 8-6 win.

Carter's 3-run blast off Phillies closer Mitch Williams helps Toronto overcome blowing a 5-1 lead, to capture its 2nd straight title. Williams, who coughed up a 14-9 lead in his previous appearance, walks Rickey Henderson to start the bottom of the 9th, and then yields a single to Paul Molitor following a flyout by Devon White.

Carter then drives a 2-2 pitch from Williams into the seats down the left field line to end the a World Series on a walk-off homer for just the 2nd time in history. Bill Mazeroski's blast in 1960 won it for Pittsburgh.

Toronto appeared coasting to a title when it tagged Terry Mulholland for 3 runs in the 1st, highlighted by Molitor's RBI triple. Molitor, en route to MVP honors, pushed the lead to 5-1 with a solo HR in the 5th.

The Phillies strike back in the 7th with Lenny Dykstra delivering a 3-run HR off Dave Stewart, and then adding 2 more runs against Danny Cox to take the lead 6-5.
