Livan Hernandez, Marlins claim a 2-1 win over the Braves.

Hernandez bests mutliple Cy Young winner Greg Maddux to give Florida a 3-2 lead in the series. Hernandez, starting for an ill Kevin Brown, goes the distance, equaling and LCS record with 15 strikeouts. Hernandez allows 3 hits, walks and the lone run, coming on Michael Tucker's solo HR in the 2nd.

Maddux is equally tough after a rocky start. Maddux hits leadoff hitter Devon White, and then White steals second and scores on Bobby Bonilla's single. Maddux then cruises, allowing just 1 more hit until the 7th when Tucker is unable to make a snowcone catch against the wall on a Bonilla drive. Jeff Conine follows with a single to score Bonilla. Maddux finishes allowing 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9.

The Braves mount a threat in the 8th when Kenny Lofton walks with 2 outs, but is gunned down attempting to steal second on a perfect throw by Charles Johnson.
