Game Notes

Marlins prevail with a crazy 14-11 win over the Indians.

Florida wins the 2nd longest 9-inning World Series game with a rally and 9th-inning outburst before staggering through the bottom of the 9th. Cleveland scores 4 in the 9th off Rob Nen before stranding 2 runners as the game concludes at 4 hours and 12 minutes, just 2 minutes shy of the record.

The Indians had jumped on Al Leiter to build a 7-3 lead on a frigid night. However, the Marlins claw back against Charles Nagy and relievers Brian Anderson and Mike Jackson to tie the game when Edgar Renteria singles home Craig Counsell in the 7th and then scores on Gary Sheffleld's double.

Then Florida's offense breaks loose while Cleveland falls apart in the 9th. After Marquis Grissom's throws trying to nail a hobbled Bobby Bonilla going from 1st to 3rd on Darren Daulton's single, caroms off Bonilla into the cameramen's well allows the go-ahead run to score, Daulton also advances and then scores on an errant pickoff throw. Another error allows Cliff Floyd, the beneficiary of the errant pickoff, to score. The Marlins tack on insurance runs when Sheffield delivers an RBI single and Bonilla comes up again and delivers a 2-run single.
