Game Notes

Indians draw even with a controversial 4-1 win over the Yankees in 12 innings.

Cleveland scores the winning run on a contested call and brain freeze by Chuck Knoblauch. Tied 1-1 with a runner on 1st, Travis Fryman lays down a bunt and Tino Martinez's throw hits Fryman in the back as he reaches 1st base. As Knoblauch protests Fryman was guilty of interference, the ball rolls towards the outfield and pinch runner Enrique Wilson scrambles around the bases to score the go-ahead run.

Kenny Lofton later adds a 2-run single off Jeff Nelson for insurance.

Pitching had ruled throughout until the controversial 12th. David Cone goes 8 innings, allowing 5 hits, including a solo HR to David Justice in the 4th. New York ties the game on Scott Brosius' RBI double off Charles Nagy in the 7th.
