New York draws even behind a stellar start by Orlando Hernandez. Hernandez checks Cleveland on just 3 hits over 7-plus innings before Mike Stanton and Mariano Rivera finish. The Indians manage just 4 hits, only threatening in the 1st and 8th.

The Yankees' bats remain mostly quiet, but managing just 4 hits as well. However, New York is able to make the few hits and walks count. Paul O'Neill tags Dwight Gooden with a 2-out HR in the top of the 1st.

The Yankees get some breathing room in the 4th when Gooden walks the 1st 2 batters ahead of an RBI double by Chili Davis. Tino Martinez adds a Sac Fly for a 3-0 lead.
