Game Notes

Yankees finish, beating the Indians 9-5.

New York starts fast, and then finishes strong after Cleveland rallies. The Yankees tag starter Charles Nagy for 6 runs in the 1st 3 innings, highlighted by Scott Brosius' 3-run HR in the 3rd.

David Cone cruises along until the 5th when the Indians start the inning with 3 straight singles followed by a bases loaded walk. After Cone strikes out Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome crushes a pitch for a Grand Slam, reducing the New York lead to 6-5.

However, Cleveland's comeback fades in the bottom of the 6th when the Yankees break the game open with a 2-run triple by Derek Jeter. Jeter then scores on a single by Bernie Williams.
