Game Notes

Tom Glavine, Braves silence the Mets 1-0.

Glavine combines with Mike Remlinger and John Rocker to shut out New York and give Atlanta a 3-0 lead in the series. Glavine scatters 7 hits and a walk while striking out 8 in 7 innings.

Al Leiter nearly matches Glavine, but falls victim to his own mistake in the 1st inning. The Braves manage just 3 hits, but don't need one to score the game's only run in the 1st inning. Leiter walks leadoff hitter Gerald Williams and then throws wildly to first when Bret Boone attempts to bunt Williams over. Williams then scores on a double steal when Mike Piazza's throw to 2nd base ends up in centerfield.
