Game Notes

Robin Ventura, Mets 'slam' the Braves for 4-3 win in 15 innings.

Ventura ends the longest duration post-season game in MLB history (5 hours, 46 minutes) with a "Grand" single off Kevin McGlinchy. After Todd Patt draws a bases-loaded walk to score the tying run, Ventura drives a pitch over the righfield wall, but after Roger Cedeno scores the winning run, Ventura is mobbed between 1st and 2nd bases, turning his Grand Slam into a single.

Atlanta had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the 15th when Keith Lockhart triples off Octavio Dotel, scoring Walt Weiss after the 2 teams had been deadlocked since the 4th inning.

New York took the lead on John Olerud's 2-run HR off Greg Maddux in the bottom of the 1st. The Braves tie it when Bret Boone leads off the 4th with a double off Masato Yoshii and then Chipper Jones follows with a double and Brian Jorden then singles home Jones.
