Mets outlast Cardinals in a slugfest 10-6.

New York sets a post-season record with 5 doubles in the 1st inning, as the 5 of the 1st 6 batters start with 2-baggers. The Mets' outburst answers 2 runs by St. Louis in the top of the 1st. Timo Perez, Edgardo Alfonzo, Mike Piazza, Robin Ventura start the innings with doubles, and Benny Agbayani adds a 1-out RBI double to make it 4-2.

Darryl Kile, starting on 3 days rest, is hammered, as New York opens a 7-2 after 2 innings. However, Bobby Jones also struggles and the Cardinals are able to draw within 8-6 in the 5th inning.
