Andy Pettitte delivers in Game 1, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run in 8 innings. Paul O'Neill carries the New York attack with a 2-run HR off Aaron Sele in the 4th for a 3-0 lead.

Seattle finally breaks through in bottom of the 5th, scratching out a run on John Olerud's groundout. But Pettitte responds by striking out Jay Buhner and Dan Wilson to end the threat.

Chuck Knoblauch goes 3-for-5 and Jorge Posada scores a pair of runs to spark the Yankees.
