New York answers 2 straight losses in Arizona, taking advantage of a mid-inning defensive meltdown by the Diamondbacks. Arizona begins its meltdown in the 4th with a pair of errors on routine plays, but escapes without allowing the go-ahead run. In the 6th, the Diamondbacks commit another error and suffer 2 Wild Pitches, helping Scott Brosius single home Derek Jeter for a 2-1 lead.

The defensive woes come at a cost in a tightly pitched battle between Brian Anderson and Roger Clemens. Clemens goes 7 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run before turning it over to Mariano Rivera for a 2-inning save.
