After 3 heart-breaking losses in New York, Arizona rallies to force a Game 7, and then rallies again against the greatest closer in baseball history in the 9th to win it. Luis Gonzalez lofts a single over a draw-in infield against Mariano Rivera to score the winning run after Tony Womack singled home the tying run to erase a 2-1 deficit.

The dramatic end denies New York, which had gone ahead on Alfonso Soriano's solo HR off Curt Schilling in the 7th. Schilling and fellow ace, Randy Johnson, combine to keep the Yankees close on 6 hits. Schilling and Roger Clemens had matched each other through the early innings.
