New York's last hope fades as Detroit gets to C.C. Sabathia early, and the Yankees' quiet bats are unable to generate an answer against Max Scherzer. The Tigers score single runs in the 1st and 3rd and then break the game open on 2-run HRs in the 4th by Jhonny Peralta and Miguel Cabrera.

Peralta adds a solo HR late, along with another by Austin Jackson, wrapping up the sweep of top-seeded New York. Scherzer combines with 3 relievers on a 2-hitter.
