The Giants get to St. Louis ace Chris Carpenter, scoring the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Carpenter, and then plate 2 more runs on an RBI single by Marco Scutaro and an error by Matt Holliday that allows the 2nd run to score.

San Francisco adds 2 insurance runs in the 8th, but Ryan Vogelsang makes the added runs unnecessary with an strong performance, going 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 1 run.
