Games Notes

A's power by the TIgers 8-7.

Oakland rallies in the late innings to beat Detroit after a pitchers duel between Eric Plunk and Eric King turns offensive. The Tigers broke a 2-2 tie with Mike Heath's 3-run HR in the bottom of the 6th. Heath goes 4-of-4.

The A's score twice in the 7th, but Detroit regains its 3-run lead when Darrell Evans homers off Dave Lieper in the bottom of the inning. However, Jeff Robinson and Mark Thurmond are unable to hold the lead.

Robinson walks Mark McGwire, who had earlier homer for his 3rd of the series, and then offers up a 2-run opposite field HR to Tony Phillips cutting the lead to 7-6. Terry Steinbach and Alfredo Griffin greet Thurmond with a pair of singles before Ron Cey delivers a 2-run pinch-double for the lead.
