Game Notes

Tigers outlast Blue Jays for 3-2 win in 12 innings.

Detroit takes over sole possession of 1st place on Manny Lee's 2nd costly error. A throwing error by Lee in the 5th opens the door for the tying run to score. Then in the 12th, a routine ground ball goes through Lee's legs on Alan Trammel's sharply hit ball with the bases loaded and 1 out, allowing Jim Walenwander to score after Jeff Musselman pitches into trouble.

Musselman's extra-inning meltdown and Lee's costly errors ruin a stellar performance by Mike Flanagan, who out-duels Jack Morris. Morris makes over 150 pitches, allowing 8 hits and 2 runs in 9 innings, walking 5 and striking out 6. Meanwhile, Flanagan lasts 11 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 walks, 1 earned run and 1 unearned run, while striking out 9.
